The Salem Community Volunteer Fire Department is a rural fire department serving parts of Livingston and Crittenden counties.

Operating out of 1 station and consisting of 23 members, 2 Class "A" Pumpers, 2 Tankers, 1 Field Unit a Medical Unit, the department responded to 100 calls in 2004.

The Salem Community VFD operates off annual dues and donations. It is not a taxing district.

MISSION STATEMENT
SALEM FIRE DEPT
PURPOSE

The Salem Fire Dept Is Dedicated to Fire Related Rescues, Protection of Property, Fire Prevention, and Extinguishment of Fires in Our Livingston and Crittenden County Coverage Area. We Will Assist Other Fire Departments and Rescue Squads When Called upon for Mutual Aid.

SECTION A - PRIMARY MISSION

The Salem Fire Department Will Respond to and Take the Leading Role in the Following:
  • 1. Fire Prevention
  • 2. Structure Fires
  • 3. Field and Grass Fires
  • 4. Fire Related Rescues
  • 5. Comply with all Federal, State and Local Laws
  • 6. Assist in Community Projects When Approved by The Majority of The Membership.
  • 7. Limited Ground Searches.

SECTION B - FORBIDDEN ACTIVITIES

The Salem Fire Department Will Not Take the Leading Role in the Following:
  • 1. Confined Space Rescue
  • 2. High Angle Rescue
  • 3. Law Enforecement
  • 4. HAZMAT Incidents Above the Awareness Level
